Palestinian hunger-striker in ‘very critical condition’

Days of Palestine, Jerusalem –Health condition of Palestinian hunger-striking journalist Mohamed al-Qeeq “seriously deteriorated,” Palestinian lawyer, who visited him on Friday, said.

Al-Qeeq has been on hunger-strike for 74 days, protesting against his administrative detention by the Israeli occupation.

Lawyer Hiba Masalha, who visited him in the Israeli hospital Al-Afula, said: “Al-Qeeq lost ability to speak, ability to move his limbs and he suffers from major breathing difficulties.”

Masalha reported the deputy manager of Al-Afula Hospital saying: “Al-Qeeq is experiencing continuous dangerous health deterioration. There is a real danger on his kidneys and intestines due to lack of extrication for a month.”

The lawyer noted that hunger-striker might have a brain hemorrhage. “Every minute, he is at the brink of death because his internal organs might stop functioning at any time,” she reported doctors saying.

Early on Friday, an Israeli court suspended Al-Qeeq’s detention and decided he must remain at hospital until he recovers. Al-Qeeq refused the suspension decision, calling for a final end to his administrative detention.

Administrative detention is an Israeli racist policy through which Palestinians are imprisoned without charges or trials for endlessly renewable terms of six months.
