Pakistani soldier killed in militant attack

Official sources told Press TV that the attack took place on Sunday morning in the town of Wana in South Waziristan tribal region, near the Afghan border.

Security forces cordoned off the area and shifted the injured people to a local hospital.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

The assailants carried out the attack hours after a roadside bomb hit a military vehicle in the southwestern province of Balochistan. The bomb killed two Pakistani paramilitary troops and wounded nine others.

Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants and associated groups have carried out numerous attacks on security forces as well as civilians.
Over 35,000 Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001, when Pakistan entered an alliance with the US in the so-called war on terrorism, according to local media outlets.

Since late 2009, there has been a surge in militant attacks in Pakistan.
