‘Pakistani fighter jets kill 9 militants’

The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Press TV on Thursday that the strikes occurred in the Saifel Dara district and other remote parts of the Upper Orakzai tribal area. Pakistani military aircraft also destroyed two militant hideouts during the attacks.

The Pakistani military has launched a series of offensives against militants in the semiautonomous tribal region in the past few years.

Despite the Pakistani government’s operations against militants, known as Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and its associated groups, they have still been able to spread their influence in the country’s various regions and have killed thousands of people.

Over 35,000 Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001 when Pakistan entered an alliance with the US in Washington’s so-called war on terror, according to local media.

Since late 2009, there has been a surge in militant attacks in Pakistan.

Thousands more have been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping the country.
