The Pakistani military has killed at least 10 militants in a new airstrike against the hideouts of pro-Taliban forces in North Waziristan Province.
According to officials, Pakistani fighter jets attacked the hideouts of the pro-Taliban forces in the Kushali Torikhel, Khaisur and Hiskhel areas of Mir Ali on early Tuesday, the third day of major Pakistani military operation against the forces from Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan.
Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif vowed on Monday to continue the military operations against the militants in the country’s northwestern tribal areas. Sharif said that pro-Taliban militants are still killing people, despite Pakistan’s efforts to engage in peace talks with them.
The Pakistani army launched a major operation against the militants in North Waziristan near the Afghan border on Sunday. The operation involved the air force, artillery fire, and ground troops.
The operation comes following a raid by the pro-Taliban militants on Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport on June 8, in which 37 people were killed.
The pro-Taliban militants have carried out numerous attacks against security forces as well as civilians in Pakistan, and have managed to spread their influence in various regions of the country despite sporadic offensives by the Pakistani army.
