June 4, The Iran Project – Pakistani High Commissioner to New Delhi Abdul Basit has stressed Tehran-Islam Abad’s friendly relations, saying Pakistan is not a member of any anti-Iran coalition.
Touching upon Saudi-led military alliance, Abdul Basit noted that we are part of the so-called military anti-terrorism alliance and do not take part in any coalition against other countries including Iran.
Pakistani envoy stated that Pakistan’s relations with Saudi Arabia and other Persian Gulf countries is of great significance, adding it attaches great importance to the ties with the Islamic Republic as well and does not favor any of the parties.
Also, Islam Abad is ready to mediate between Iran and Saudi Arabia, the Pakistani official emphasized.
Meanwhile, he expressed his opposition to the US President Donald Trump’s remarks in Arab Islamic American Summit in Riyadh where he called for the international “isolation” of Iran.
In December 2015, Saudi Defense Minister Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced the formation of an alliance of Muslim-majority countries, which now numbers 40. Riyadh claims the alliance has been formed to fight extremist groups such as the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group.
Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said earlier that Islamabad will quit a controversial Saudi-led coalition if it becomes “sectarian.”
