Police have rescued a couple whose catamaran ran aground near Gabo Island, in eastern Victoria.
The man and the woman, both 75, were on a trip from Hobart to Eden, in New South Wales, when their 30 metre boat was damaged in bad weather.
Both of the catamaran’s rudders were broken and they decided to abandon ship.
A police officer from Mallacoota drove and walked for an hour to meet them on the remote coastline at Wingan Inlet.
A police helicopter landed on the beach nearby and the couple were checked over by a paramedic before being flown to Mallacoota.
