The Palestinian Authority (PA)’s security services yesterday saved two extremist Israeli settlers after they were spotted by Palestinians in the central West Bank city of Ramallah, local sources reported.
Settlers were spotted in Al Manara Square in the centre of Ramallah and Palestinians gathered around them, but the PA’s security services arrived immediately, evacuated them and handed them to Israeli occupation forces.
Israeli sources claimed that the two settlers entered the occupied city by mistake and an investigation into the incident has been ordered.
Dr Wael Manaameh, media professor at the Islamic University of Gaza, said: “Israelis do not enter the West Bank mistakenly. They intentionally enter to carry out security or military missions.”
“When they are uncovered, they claim they are settlers who entered by mistake, and the PA security services immediately carry out their mission of protecting them and taking them to safety outside the occupied territories.”
Manaameh told MEMO that members of the PA security services have been trained abroad on how to step in and save undercover Israeli forces when they fail to remain hidden as they carry out secret missions in the occupied territories.
