P5+1 urged to respect Iran N-capability

In a Sunday interview, Chairman of the Majlis Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Boroujerdi hailed the achievements of young Iranian experts to independently produce the required fuel for the country’s nuclear power plants and the installation of 20-percent nuclear fuel plates at the Tehran Research Reactor to produce radio-medicine for the treatment of 800,000 patients without any assistance from the US and its allies.

“The key message of such measures and achievements is that the Islamic Republic of Iran has fully mastered the nuclear know-how and unless the P5+1 (Britain, China, France, Russia, the US plus Germany) recognizes the reality of Iran’s nuclear capabilities, they will incur losses,” IRNA quoted him as saying.

The Iranian legislator called on the nuclear powers to avoid the policy of confrontation with respect to Iran’s nuclear energy program and embark on constructive interactions with Tehran.

“The Majlis Lawmakers expect the country’s negotiating team to place on their negotiating agenda the adjustment of existing conditions, revocation of the previous [UN] resolutions and return of [Iran’s] case from the UN Security Council to the IAEA’s (International Atomic Energy Agency) Board of Governors,” Boroujerdi pointed out.

He also reaffirmed Tehran’s determination to enter negotiations with the P5+1 only within the framework of its proposed package to discuss various issues, including regional crises, terrorism, narcotics and energy.

On February 15, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili sent a letter to Ashton saying Iran is ready to restart negotiations over its nuclear energy program with the P5+1 — Britain, China, France, Russia, the US plus Germany.

On March 8, the P5+1 also announced its readiness to resume multifaceted talks.

Iran and the P5+1 held two rounds of multifaceted talks in Geneva in December 2010 and in the Turkish city of Istanbul in January 2011.

While Tehran says it is ready to continue talks based on common grounds, it has stressed that it will not give up any of its rights.

Jalili added that he welcomes Ashton’s position on respecting Iran’s right to use peaceful nuclear energy according to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

The US, Israel and some of their allies accuse Tehran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program.

Iran has refuted the allegations, arguing that as a signatory to the NPT and a member of the IAEA, Tehran is entitled to the peaceful use of nuclear technology.
