OWS ‘spring training’ protests hit NY

Occupy Wall Street demonstrators rallied from Liberty Square to Wall Street in New York on Friday. The march dubbed as ‘spring training’ was the first in a series of marches that are going to follow in preparation for the May Day.

“This is the first day that we’re kicking off our weekly Wall Street marches, sort of our spring training marches, in preparation for what’s going to be a really big, historic spring of protests around New York and around the country on May Day,” a protester said.

The new wave of protest rallies are aimed against “corporate greed, arrogance and power”, and has prompted speculation that American authorities are losing patience with expanding demonstrations around the country.

The protesters use the slogan, “We are the 99 percent” to distinguish themselves from the one percent of Americans who are in possession of the greatest portion of the nation’s wealth.

The ‘Occupy’ movement, emerged after a group of people on September 17 rallied in New York’s financial district under the motto of ‘Occupy Wall Street,’ protesting corruption, poverty as well as social inequality in the US.
