THE Office of Police Integrity has called for evidence from a 2004 investigation into rape allegations against St Kilda player Stephen Milne to be reviewed.
The call follows an inquiry into 2010 allegations made by the detective leading the investigation that he had dropped the charges under pressure from other officers.
Former Brighton Senior Detective Scott Gladman had told Channel Nine that records of interviews with the players were stolen from his desk and the alleged victim’s statement was leaked to the football club.
A statement from Victoria Police last night said that while the OPI concluded no specific evidence of actual interference was found, Mr Gladman’s concerns that the investigation was the subject of undue interference were reasonable.
”The report has also made a number of findings about shortcomings in the … oversight of the investigation,” the statement said.
The OPI report has stopped short of saying Milne should be re-investigated, Channel Nine reported last night.
