One Iranian national killed, 3 wounded in Istanbul bombing

An Iranian national has lost his life and three others, including two children, sustained injures in a huge bomb explosion that hit a shopping street in Istanbul, Turkey.

The body of Ali Reza Razmkhah is currently kept at a forensic facility in Istanbul, a spokesperson of the General Consulate of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Istanbul told IRNA on Saturday, adding that two Iranian children named Diana and Azam Razmkhah also sustained injuries and were taken to Şişli Etfal Hospital of the city.

The official also said that a 61-year-old Iranian woman, named Zhila Shariat Alaei, was also wounded in the blast and was taken to Haseki Hospital in Istanbul, adding that all three wounded Iranian nationals were in stable conditions.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who was on an official visit to Istanbul at the time, roundly condemned the terror attack, saying it showed “the ugly face of terrorism.” Before leaving the city, Zarif talked to one of the wounded by phone.

Earlier on Saturday, a bomb attack in a busy shopping street in Istanbul killed at least five people, including the assailant. Thirty six others also sustained injuries in the attack, carried out on Istiklal Street in the heart of Istanbul.

The street, which adjoins Taksim Square, is also home to cafes, restaurants and foreign consulate buildings. No individual or group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

The incident comes just days after a bombing attack, claimed by a Kurdish militant group, left about 35 people dead in the capital Ankara.
