“The demonstrators hurled a hand grenade at US special forces base in Imam Sahib town of Kunduz Province. As a result seven US special forces were wounded,” Kunduz police spokesman Sayed Sarwar Hussaini says.
The recent violence comes as police forces searched for an intelligence official suspected of being responsible for the killing of two US officers inside Afghanistan’s interior ministry yesterday.
Earlier, an airstrike carried out by French troops claimed the lives of at least three Afghan civilians, including two children in Kapisa Province.
Afghans have entered their sixth consecutive day of protests against US-led forces in Afghanistan and the recent desecration of the holy Quran by US troops. More than 30 people have been killed in the protests.
The US-led invasion of Afghanistan took place in 2001. The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity continues to rise across Afghanistan, despite the presence of thousands of US-led troops there.
Thousands of civilians, including women and children, have been killed as a result of the war.
