Occupy Graduation: US students ‘prisoners to their debt’
A broad coalition of groups and activists called “Occupy Graduation” has joined forces to raise public awareness about the outstanding student loan debt obligations in the United States.
“It is a really great collaborative effort and the goal is to allow students to express what’s going on currently with the student debt at graduation,” Natalia Abrams, facilitator of “Occupy Colleges,” a group affiliated with “Occupy Graduation,” told Press TV’s U.S. Desk on Saturday.
Abrams said they are offering students inflatable “balls and chains” to attach to their legs in their protest events to symbolize the fact that American students are becoming “prisoners to their debt”.
The U.S.’ student loan debt burden now exceeds a trillion dollars. That’s more than the nation’s credit card debt.
