Occupy 4 Jobs protesters gather in New York

The Occupy 4 Jobs network has chosen Martin Luther King Jr. Day for their rally demanding decent jobs for everybody. A number of arrests have been reported.

The Occupy 4 Jobs network has celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day in New York City on January 16 with direct action to demand jobs. The organization’s main demand is “a massive public works project big enough to provide jobs at union wages for the 30 million unemployed and underemployed workers in the country,” as stated in a message on their website.

Several hundred protesters gathered in New York and a number of arrests in front of the Bank of America have been reported.

The protesters claimed that MLK holiday was the perfect day for pushing forward their demands. According to Larry Holmes, a leading organizer of the Bail Out the People Movement and one of the founders of Occupy 4 Jobs, in the last months of his life King was “devoted to opening a struggle for everyone to have a decent-paying job.”
