Occupation prevents Gaza cancer patients from treatment

Days of Palestine, West Bank –Israeli Major General Yoav Mordechai has recognised that his government prevents Gaza cancer patients from travelling to receive medical treatment abroad.

Mordechai is the coordinator of Israeli government activities in the occupied Palestinian territories. He said in an interview with the Palestinian daily Al-Quds that his government has its excuses to prevent the Gaza cancer patients from treatment.

He claimed that the cancer patients and merchants from Gaza are commissioned by Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Movement which won free general elections in 2006, to “sabotage” the Israeli economy.

The Israeli official accused two Palestinian patients of collecting intelligence information for Hamas; one from Khan Younis city and the other from Gaza.

Refuting Mordechai’s claims, Soha Hussein, a wife of 53-year old cancer patient from Gaza, said: “My husband is so sick to be able to serve himself. How can you imagine he would be able to leave the hospital and collect intelligence information.”

“Hamas cynical exploitation of Israeli entry permits is forcing Israel to think twice before it issues permits to Gazans,” he said, warning that the Israeli authorities to “close the Strip and completely prevent travel of Gazans from the Strip.”

It seems that he ignored the fact that his apartheid state has been placing a strict siege on the Gaza Strip since 2006.

Mordechai claimed that Hamas “is preparing itself for a military clash, and is not interested in serving the public in Gaza.”
