Occupation demolishes water wells to the north of Al-Khalil

AL-KHALIL (PIC)–The occupation authorities demolished on Monday morning, water wells in the Halhoul town north of Al-Khalil in the West Bank under the pretext they were built without a permit.

The Land Research Center, said in a press release that the forces of the Occupation Army and its Civil Administration raided this morning regions in south of Halhoul town and started the demolition of the wells which were built six months ago in the regions to irrigate crops in the citizens’ lands.

The Center indicated that these wells that belong to Bassam Gehchen and Ali Hamdan al-Atrash, “were funded by the French Consulate and implemented by the Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC). The volume of each well reaches (100) cubic meters and each one irrigates ten acres of grapes’ plantations.

Bassam Gehchen told the Land Research Center that the Occupation Authorities had given a notice requiring the demolition of these wells. He also pointed out that when the residents received the notice, the French Consul visited these wells and promised to object the demolition’s decisions. Yet, the occupation authorities demolished the wells this morning.

Gehchen also described the farmers’ suffering after the demolition of the wells, and pointed out to the risks of thirst and dehydration, which threatens now the grapes’ plantations especially with the beginning of the summer
