‘Obama’s ‘cheap words’ on economy’

“My own view is that he will speak eloquently but that words are cheap,” Romney, the Republican presidential candidate, said on Wednesday.

Speaking at the Business Roundtable quarterly meeting in Washington, Romney urged the business executives to ignore Obama’s “soaring and eloquent” rhetoric and focus on the records of joblessness in the country during his presidency.

“We have 23 million Americans that are out of work, or stopped looking for work or underemployed. That is a compelling and sad statistic. These are real people,” Romney added.

In a speech on Thursday at a community college in Cleveland, Ohio, Obama is expected to downplay the financial woes in the US by saying that the private sector was “doing fine” under his economic leadership. Meanwhile, he will also ask voters for more time to boost economic growth.

Obama, who would lose the coming general election if he could not convince voters about his economic policies, is to sketch out economic plans of Romney, who has condemned Obama’s ‘economic remedies’.

“Governor Romney and his allies in Congress believe that if you simply take away regulations and cut taxes by trillions of dollars, the market will solve all our problems on its own,” an official from Obama campaign said.

Meanwhile, Romney is also set to speak at a manufacturing tool company at the other end of Ohio Thursday. He earlier claimed that he would make America an attractive place for investors and job creators.

The former Massachusetts governor insisted that Obama administration was responsible for the “most anti-investment, anti-business, anti-jobs series of policies in modern American history.”

“The reason it has taken so long for this recovery to gain traction and put people back to work is in large measure because of [Obama’s] policy choices,” he added.
