US PRESIDENT Barack Obama will deliver a speech to the nation when he visits Australia in November.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard said the President would address Parliament on November 17.
“Last month I wrote to President Obama to invite him to address the Parliament during his visit,” she said.
“I’m pleased to advise the House that President Obama has accepted this invitation.”
Mr Obama is due to be in Australia on November 16 and 17, after two unsuccessful scheduled visits Down Under.
Ms Gillard said 2011 was the 60th anniversary of the ANZUS alliance, so it was a fitting time for a visit.
“During his visit we will be firmly focused on the future,” Ms Gillard said.
“On our future alliance partnership, on the opportunities for our societies in the Asian century, on economic growth and on jobs.”
Opposition Leader Tony Abbott said he was also looking forward to the President’s visit.
“America is Australia’s greatest friend and strongest ally, and the President of the United States will always be our most welcome and our most honoured guest,” Mr Abbott said.
