‘Obama signed US into Police State’

“We have a police state here in the United States – the police have literary been militarized! A tremendous amount…has gone into police forces all over the country,” online columnist Allen Roland said.

Rolland added that for all practical and intensive purposes “the president has the right to actually put these people in detention, if he signs the most recent law about unlawful protest and occupying.”

In January, President Barack Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which greatly expands the power and scope of the federal government to crack down on terror suspects.

The NDAA’s broad authority, however, has raised concerns among activists that those simply demonstrating their First Amendment civil rights could be deemed as an enemy of the state.

Experts say detention for mere exercise of First Amendment rights is a real possibility now.

“So people are going to get angrier, they are going to take to the streets and the next step you will see, people will be going to detention camps. And remember, there are many, many detention camps set up already all over the United States,” Rolland concluded.

The Occupy campaign owes its inspiration to the Occupy Wall Street movement, which began when a group of demonstrators gathered in New York’s financial district on September 17 to protest, among other things, against the excessive influence of big corporations on the US policies and the high-level corruption in the country.

The police in the US have made thousands of arrests as part of the crackdown on the movement since its emergence.
