‘Obama policies against Iran more bitter’

“The policies of [US President Barack] Obama on the Iranian nation have been more bitter than the past, but since they face a strong nation, they cannot achieve their objectives,” Larijani said during a speech at a conference in the Iranian city of Qom on Thursday.

“Today, by virtue of [Iran’s] Islamic Revolution [of 1979], US-dependent dictatorships have either collapsed or are collapsing, which is why the [global] arrogance is trying to break the will of the Iranian nation,” he added.

Iran’s Majlis Speaker went on to say that the determination of Iranian nation to realize its ideals and attain its goals of progress has been strengthened as a result of US-led international pressure.

“International pressure such as sanctions and some threats by the global arrogance against the Islamic Republic have doubled the resolve and determination of the Iranian nation to move toward progress, development, and honor,” Larijani noted.

On December 31, 2011, the United States imposed new sanctions against Tehran aimed at preventing other countries from importing Iran’s oil and doing transactions with its Central Bank.

The European Union foreign ministers also approved sanctions against Iran on January 23, including a ban on Iranian oil imports, a freeze on the assets of the country’s central bank within the EU states and a ban on selling diamonds, gold, and other precious metals to Tehran.

The Iranian Majlis Speaker also pointed out that “Today, the Islamic Republic of Iran is a beacon of hope for the regional countries and its enemies are putting pressure on us in order to make regional nations lose their hope in the Islamic Republic.”

The US, Israel, and some of their allies accuse Iran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear program and have used this pretext to impose international and unilateral sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

Iran has refuted the allegations, arguing that as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

The IAEA has never found any evidence indicating that Tehran’s civilian nuclear program has been diverted towards nuclear weapons production.
