An Australian-born adviser to President Barack Obama who is set to speak at the upcoming jobs forum has previously slammed the federal government’s mining tax as “a major disaster”.
Andrew Liveris, who is the Dow Chemical Chief and co-chair’s the Obama administration’s Advanced Manufacturing Partnership, reportedly lashed out at the mining tax and labelled a carbon tax “unwise” and “ill-timed” back in July.
“If you’re a boom-bust economy, then what you have to do is be likeNorway (and) put the money to one side for a rainy day,” he told The Australian newspaper in the July interview.
“What I see in Australia is we’re getting intoxicated with our resources boom one more time and forgetting about the inevitable bust.”
Mr Liveris is set to be a keynote speaker at the government’s Future Jobs Forum on Thursday.
