The Lyne independent MP Rob Oakeshott says he is working with fellow independent Tony Windsor on mining tax negotiations with the Federal Government.

Legislation for the resources rent tax came into Parliament this week but the Government does not have enough crossbench support.

Mr Windsor is pushing for tougher restrictions on coal seam gas proposals.

Mr Oakeshott says he knows there are concerns in his electorate about mining and exploration but it is a very complex issue.

“I’m quietly working behind Tony. Tony’s been quite open that he is putting an ultimatum on his vote,” he said.

“He’s out unless this issue gets resolved. People have seen it over the last 12 months, Tony and I quite often play the good guy, bad guy routine.

“On this one I’m trying to negotiate a sensible outcome.

“Hopefully over the coming two weeks while this bills before the Parliament we can do that.”
