NSW will be given $200 million in the federal budget to plan big-ticket road projects.
The money is to help plan for the M4 East motorway, M5 East duplication and a tunnel linking the F3 with the M2 motorway, News Limited reports.
The newspaper also reports that Canberra is prepared to set aside a further $25 million to create an investment company that the state government would control to attract private financing for major infrastructure projects.
But those funds are conditional on the NSW government matching the federal government’s contribution.
When it comes to planning Sydney’s road infrastructure, the federal government will pledge $150 million for work to begin on a tunnel linking the Sydney-Newcastle F3 freeway with northern Sydney’s M2 motorway.
The federal government is also repeating its offer to give NSW another $30 million to plan an M4 East motorway, linking Strathfield with the city centre.
Meanwhile, The Australian newspapers reports that Infrastructure Australia is overhauling its priority list so that it presents the Council of Australian Governments with recommendations that put economics before political considerations.
