NSW paramedic’s funeral on Tuesday

Family and friends will gather in Sydney on Tuesday for the funeral of NSW paramedic Mick Wilson, who died while rescuing canyoners on Christmas Day.

A guard of honour will be formed by ambulance staff, family and friends at the 41-year-old’s funeral at St James Anglican Church at 10am (AEDT).

Mr Wilson died when a helicopter winch-line he was attached to was cut during the rescue of two canyoners at Carrington Falls, southwest of Wollongong.

Mr Wilson, a paramedic for 15 years, rescued both men before he died.

He had received awards for his work and became the first NSW paramedic to be killed on duty in more than 30 years.

An appeal has been set up for donations to Mr Wilson’s family and anyone wishing to donate can do so at any Commonwealth Bank branch.

The details are: the Mick Wilson Family Appeal, BSB 062-177, account no 1024 7793.
