The 59-year-old man was assailed during a domestic dispute at a house in Molong, about 35km northwest of Orange, on Wednesday night, police said.
Officers were called to the home about 4.45am on Thursday (AEDT) only to find out the man had already driven himself to a local hospital.
The victim, who sustained wounds to his stomach, hip, leg and hand, was later transferred to Orange Base Hospital.
A 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is expected to be charged later in the day, police said.
