Now You Now Have No Choice But to Use Facebook Timeline

That moaning you hear this morning is the collective Facebook world registering its discontent with the announcement of yet another change to the social network — namely, that the Facebook Timeline will now be mandatory for all users. “Over the next few weeks, everyone will get timeline,” Facebook wrote on its blog today. “When you get timeline, you’ll have 7 days to preview what’s there now.”

We knew that the idea behind the Timeline was that it would be forced on all users, despite many people’s objections, including our own Rebecca Greenfield who critiqued it last year. And though, as AllThingsD notes, this “particular Facebook layout change seems to have been less catastrophic than others, in part because the Timeline rollout was delayed, staggered, and included the seven-day preview periods,” we now know that the day of the universal Timeline is upon us. To those who’ve refrained from installing Timeline, we’d suggest, like us, that you make the switch quickly to lessen the pain and just get used to your profile’s new format sooner rather than later.
