A Gold Coast building destroyed by fire was unoccupied at the time, police say.
The Mermaid Beach building was popular with squatters and officers had feared a 20-year-old homeless man was inside when it went up in flames just after 1.20pm (AEST) on Friday.
However, they say there was no sign of victims during a search of the gutted structure on Saturday.
“We’re confident that he wasn’t inside the building at the time of the blaze,” police told AAP.
