Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond has criticized the ‘No Scotland’ campaign, describing it as “utterly laughable and totally ridiculous.”
In an address to the Scottish National Party’s (SNP) spring conference in the city of Aberdeen on Saturday, Salmond said the campaign to keep Scotland in the UK was out of touch.
“The more the people of Scotland hear the case for ‘No’, the more likely they are to vote ‘Yes’. And no wonder – they are the most miserable, negative, depressing and thoroughly boring campaign in modern political history,” the SNP leader said.
He also noted that the momentum was currently with the ‘Yes Scotland’ campaign, as the pro-independence movement seems to be “positive” and “uplifting.”
According to a recent poll, some 41 percent of Scots were in favour of breaking away from the UK, compared with 46 percent who voted to remain in union with Britain.
The survey, commissioned by the polling company Panelbase, also found that by excluding the 14 percent of voters who are still undecided over the issue, about 47 percent of Scottish people intend to vote Yes while 53 percent plan a No vote in an upcoming referendum.
The independence referendum, due to be held on September 18, could result in Scotland’s break-up from the UK after more than 300 years of political union.
