No hope for UK Tories boundary changes

In an interview with ConservativeHome, Shapps noted that the new constituency boundaries will not get through the House of Commons, meaning that the existing boundaries have been accepted by the party members.

While critics considered the move as a retreat, a senior party source said the move did not mean they had given up hope for the changes that would reduce House of Commons’ seats by 50 to 600.

The UK Conservatives’ decision comes as the Liberal Democrats and the Labour Party started selecting their candidates based on the existing constituency boundaries.

Shapps announced that the Tories’ strategy to select candidates is based on holding 40 marginals as well as winning 40 opposition marginals.

The redrawing of boundaries could ensure the Conservatives’ success in the next general election as the changes could bring them as many as 20 extra Commons seats in 2015 polls.
