No great conspiracy with Murdoch: UK PM

“I don’t regret giving the job to Jeremy Hunt, it was the right thing to do in the circumstances, which were not of my making,” said Cameron insisting that he has acted “impartially.”

Earlier this week, a damning report, released by a long-running inquiry into British media and press ethics, revealed that Cameron already knew that his Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt was in favor of Murdoch’s BSkyB bid before he appointed him to rule on the deal.

In a November 2010 memo, Hunt told Cameron that Murdoch’s son James was “pretty furious” about the difficulties involved in their bid to increase their share in satellite broadcaster BSkyB from 39.1% to 100%. However, one month later, Cameron handed Hunt quasi-judicial power to rule on the BSkyB deal.

“Some people are saying there was some great conspiracy between me and Rupert Murdoch to do some big deal to back them in return for support,” said Cameron.

“Rupert Murdoch has said that’s not true, James Murdoch has said that’s not true, I have said that’s not true. There was no great conspiracy,” he added.
