No charges laid over Perth police attack

A 37-year-old policeman who was knocked unconscious during a wild party in Perth has been released from hospital, but no charges have been laid over the assault.

Police had earlier reported on Sunday that a 16-year-old girl had been charged but have since said she was only questioned and investigations were continuing.

Thirty-one police vehicles, the dog squad and mounted police were called to the party in Balga, in Perth’s north, about 10.20pm (WST) on Saturday after a report that about 120 young people were fighting and throwing bottles in the street.

While the officer was trying to arrest a man, someone approached him from behind and knocked him unconscious, police said.

The policeman was taken to Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital for scans and was later released.

In a separate incident about the same time, an 18-year-old man was king-hit at a party in Seville Grove, in Perth’s south.

He was taken to Armadale Hospital with a suspected fractured skull and later moved to Royal Perth Hospital, where he remains in an induced coma.

Police attended 10 parties across WA on Saturday night.
