No Australians injured in Thai blast: DFAT

No Australians were among the 30-odd people injured in an explosion at a resort in the popular Thailand holiday town of Phuket, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

Thai media outlets are reporting that a mix of pool cleaning agents exploded into a cloud of gas beside a pool at the Karon Orchid hotel in Phuket on Saturday afternoon (AEDT), injuring 10 Thai nationals and more than 20 foreigners.

“Local authorities have advised us that so far 25 foreigners have been taken to local hospitals (Bangkok Phuket Hospital and Phuket International Hospital) and that of the 25, none are Australian citizens,” DFAT said in a statement.

“Consular officials on the ground are continuing to liaise urgently with local authorities to ascertain if more foreigners were involved.”
