Prime Minister Julia Gillard has urged Queensland Premier Campbell Newman to attend an economic forum to be held in his state this week.
Ms Gillard is hosting the Brisbane forum, which will bring together around 150 representatives from government, business, unions, academia and the not-for-profit sector.
But a spokesman for Mr Newman said on Monday the premier was too busy to attend the forum.
“We’re a new government and have a lot to do,” the spokesman said in a statement.
Ms Gillard said there was still time for Mr Newman to make an appearance.
Mr Newman’s spokesman said his office had sent RSVPs for two assistant ministers to attend, but the prime minister’s office advised that RSVPs had closed.
“We’d still urge Premier Newman to be attending an important economic forum within his own state,” Ms Gillard told reporters in Canberra.
The forum will be held over two days beginning on Tuesday.
