For individual contestant and construction safety manager Artie Knapp, it was
the soothing effect of sand sculpting that made him pick up the shovel every
year.
“This is major league stress relief. You put your hands in the sand and
all the world’s problems disappear,” he said.
For child contestants the competition is an opportunity to get creative with
their imagination, such as a group of nine and 10-year-old girls who said
they were attempting to build a ‘Princess Dragon Pillow Pet’.
The sand sculptures are judged by a panel of judges who choose the first,
second, and third best creation of each category.
