New Israeli airstrike kills 2 Gazans

A Palestinian medical source said the attack targeted an area in the city of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza shortly after midnight on Tuesday.

“Two citizens were killed in an Israeli airstrike,” said the source, whose name was not mentioned in the report.

“The bodies were only recovered this morning when an ambulance could get to the scene.”

The 17-year-old victims were identified as Mohammed Bassem Abu Mealiq and Yusef al-Talbani.

Earlier reports said two Palestinians were injured in the strike, but it was not clear if the two were the same people, who died later, or additional casualties.

The Tuesday airstrike was conducted a day after four Palestinians were killed and three others wounded in two similar attacks on an area near the northern city of Beit Hanoun in Gaza.

Also in Deir al-Balah, Israeli tanks and bulldozers carried out an incursion into the city on June 17, injuring a Palestinian during the attack.

In addition to the attacks in Gaza, an illegal Israeli settler shot dead two Palestinians in the city of al-Khalil in the southern occupied West Bank on June 17.

The Israeli regime conducts attacks against the Gaza Strip on an almost regular basis.

Reports of Israeli aggression against the Palestinian territories come a few days after the United States awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Israeli President Shimon Peres, the man who has overseen the killing of Palestinian women and children by Israeli forces in Palestine for decades.

US President Barack Obama awarded the 88-year-old criminal the highest civilian honor in the United States during a dinner ceremony in the White House on June 13.
