As festive efforts go, it was hardly the most cheerful of messages to wake up to on Christmas Day.

Or the best spelt, for that matter. Justice Secretary Kenneth Clarke was again targeted by campaigners from protest group New Fathers 4 Justice yesterday morning.

Daubed across his white garage doors in big pink letters were the words ‘Fatherless Cristmas’ and six posters of young children crying.

A spokesman for the organisation said Mr Clarke’s home was targeted late on Christmas Eve to deliver ‘a seasonal message from all alienated fathers’.

Toys, a Santa suit, and a coffin were also crudely strewn across his lawn in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, ‘to signify the death of fatherhood’, according to the activists.

A statement released by the group said: ‘Christmas is a very emotional time for fathers denied access to their children.’

Nottinghamshire Police are investigating the criminal damage.

The demonstrators also planned to storm the pulpit at Canterbury Cathedral yesterday, but the action was cancelled after the Archbishop of Canterbury released a statement highlighting the significance of a father’s role in the life of a child.

It is not the first time the group has targeted Mr Clarke.

In July, an activist dressed as Batman tried to ‘arrest’ the Justice Secretary outside his Nottingham home, saying his actions were on behalf of all children stopped from seeing their fathers.

Last night Mr Clarke’s spokesman said: ‘There were some distasteful slogans painted on the garage doors of Mr Clarke’s home early on Christmas Day.

‘Once they were discovered, they were cleaned up and wiped off in a matter of an hour. We are not treating it a big deal.’ A police spokesman confirmed Mr Clarke’s constituency home was targeted by vandals. It is not known whether the Justice Secretary was there at the time.

The campaigners behind New Fathers 4 Justice are known for dressing up as superheroes while taking part in protests and claim fathers have been let down by the recent family law review which falls under Mr Clarke’s remit.

The group has also staged protests at the homes of high-profile Lib Dems. In October, five people spent three hours on the roof of Nick Clegg’s constituency home.

Distasteful slogans? I think not but then in political circles the truth , which is seldom heard, Hurts. It’s “Not a big deal” but Im sure the police will spend extra time searching for the criminals who wrote this henious slogan on Clarkes garage and prosecute them.

Scrawling a message on a garage door and dumping a coffin in his garden? I’m sorry, your case might be very convincing but this isn’t protesting, it’s bullying and intimidation.

Those photos of the crying children are from Jill Greenberg’s ‘end of times exhibition’. They’re very striking yet controversial images because she deliberately caused them to cry to get her shots.
The title of the boy’s photograph is “deniability” the girl “shock”.
Clearly good fathers who are denied access to their children for no logical reason should be helped for both their sakes but i’m not sure leaving coffins on people’s lawns is going to get the desired results.

Good for them, someone has to take action (and it wasn’t violent) against this soft minded buffon. Get a good look at the warped lawsand ideas that are being proposed on this issue.
I used to have a lot of respect for this man but his views on criminals and on this matter are beyond belief now. Has anyone checked he is actually safe to be let out on his own now.
It appears that if you are a male you are now a legitimate target for discrimination and being removed from your childrens lives that would be hounded through the courts if you were a woman or a minority.
The damage that the twisted mindset of these people will inflict will be huge. Look forward to the lawsuits coming from the children denied access to their fathers.

they are all completley out of touch in every way…
