You might have noticed that most of the comments on this site stopped displaying earlier last week. After attempting several solutions to get things working again, I finally implemented a new comments system that will hopefully be more stable and efficient in the long run. Although several commercial solutions are available (i.e. Disqus), I went for a comments system that did NOT require registration or login through a social network and that did NOT send information to a shady third party server.
While I was able to salvage the 150,000+ comments that were accumulated since 2008, the “likes” were unfortunately wiped off and reset to zero. This new system has however some new features that you might enjoy such as:
- Option to sign up for e-mail notifications upon comment replies
- Option to share individual comments on social networks
- Option to upvote AND downvote comments
- “Load More Comments” button displays more comments on the same page instead of having to reload a new page
As an additional tweak, comments are now sorted by “most voted” by default, which might help keep things fresh and relevant. However, options to sort comments by oldest first or newest first are still nevertheless available. So feel free to test out the comments and let me know if you encounter issues.
Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience.
