New arrival makes Rudd a granddad

He may be ”KRudd” to more than a million Twitter followers, but he wants to be called ”Gong Gong” – Chinese for grandfather.

Former prime minister Kevin Rudd’s daughter Jessica and her husband Albert Tse welcomed Josephine Therese – named after grandmother Therese Rein – to the world in Brisbane on Thursday afternoon. Josephine weighed 2.8 kilograms.

The news was kept under wraps until yesterday, when Mr Rudd told people attending a regular lunchtime barbecue for the homeless in Brisbane. He later wrote on Twitter: ”Well folks, I’m totally stoked.”

Jessica announced the news soon after, also on Twitter.

Mr Rudd said outside the hospital he ”won’t be recommending politics” for Josephine’s future career, while Ms Rein said the baby’s long fingers set her up to be a concert pianist. Asked what he wanted to be called, Mr Rudd said: ”Gong Gong is the Chinese word for granddad.” AAP
