New Android gaming device hits the market; Gameloft titles on sale

There were some 6.8 million Android and iOS devices activated on Christmas Day, according to a recent report from analytics firm, Flurry. And with a record-setting number of apps downloaded on this day of gift-giving, you can just imagine how many Android games are included in those numbers.

The growing interest in Android has given rise to specialized gaming devices, the latest being the JXD S7100. Running Android 2.2, the S7100 features a familiar layout that Sony gamers will appreciate. With a 7-inch touchscreen display with 480×800 pixel resolution, the S7100 comes with an ARM Cortex A9 process and Mali 400 GPU, 512MB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. There’s Wi-Fi support and an HDMI port, in case you want to play Android games on the big screen. The S7100 also comes with a front-facing VGA camera and a 2-megapixel rear unit.

For $140 the S7100 is reasonably priced as a specialty tablet, though as a gaming device it’s a bit behind the times with Android 2.2, and could use a bit more RAM. But there’s a slew of preloaded ROMs for classic games like Metal Slug and Super Mario 64. In all, its specs are worthy of its price point, competing against the likes of Sony, which has been taking advantage of Android’s open platform to push its own mobile gaming strategy with devices like the Xperia PLAY and VITA.

All Gameloft titles are 99 cents for NYE

As the holidays press on into the new year, there’s still a few days of leisure to enjoy new games on your Android device. Gameloft has not only initiated a major promotion with a string of back-to-back releases for Android with games including Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nations and NFL Pro 2012, but they’re encouraging holiday game play with a sale this New Year’s weekend. Every title in the Gameloft catalog is just $0.99 if you buy from the Android Market, ringing in the new year right. The sale runs from December 29 at 10 a.m. PST through January 5.
