‘NATO seeks continuing violence in Syria’

“NATO doesn’t want a peaceful solution of the internal problems of Syria, they want the issue, they want the issue kept alive, they want continuing violence, continuing civil wars, so that they can use it eventually, if the conditions obtain, for an aggression, for coalition of the willing, an armed attack, a no-fly zone followed by regime change,” author and historian, Dr. Webster Griffin Tarpley said in an interview with Press TV.

Tarpley said that the so-called Syrian National Council (SNC) carries out the orders of NATO, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and British Foreign Minister William Hague.

“There is no surprise that the Syrian National Council carries out the orders of the people who are paying them,” he added.

According to Dr.Tapley, the United Nation’s six point peace initiative proposed by the UN-Arab League’s special envoy Kofi Annan was never designed to bring peace to Syria, but rather to create conditions where regime change could be engineered.

Syria has been experiencing unrest ever since March 2011. Many people, including security forces, have been killed in the turmoil.

The Syrian government says ‘outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorists’ are behind the unrest in the country while the opposition accuses the security forces of being behind the killings.

Damascus also says that the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country and the security forces have been given clear instructions not to harm civilians.
