‘NATO helicopter crashes in Afghanistan’

A Taliban spokesman said the US-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) helicopter went down in the city of Qaisar in Faryab province on Sunday.

He did not specify the cause of the alleged crash or if there were any casualties.

ISAF has yet to comment on the incident.

The US-led war in Afghanistan was launched in 2001. The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity continues to rise across the country despite the presence of tens of thousands of US-led troops.

A UN report issued in February said more than 3,000 Afghan civilians died in 2011 alone.
