Local Pakistani officials said the attack was carried out in the Jamrud area of Khyber Agency on Thursday when armed men opened fire on the truck, which was carrying supplies for the US-led forces stationed in Afghanistan.
Local Pakistani government official Asmatullah Wazir said, “Two gunmen on a motorcycle fired at a NATO truck and killed its driver.”
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far, but the pro-Taliban militants were suspected of involvement in the shooting.
Militants in Pakistan have destroyed hundreds of oil tankers and containers carrying fuel and other supplies to the foreign forces in Afghanistan.
Pakistan has experienced unrelenting violence since the country joined an alliance with the United States in Washington’s so-called war on terror.
Thousands of people have subsequently lost their lives in bombings and other attacks. The violence has seen a sharp rise since late 2009.
