Natascha McElhone’s friends complete gruelling transatlantic rowing race

“Every stroke I took was a stroke closer to them. It became a mission to
simply finish, we became completers, rather than competitors.”

Later in a posting
on Twitter
, a spokesman for the pair wrote: “Boys back on land.
James wobbling about like an old drunk. Bert fast asleep. Video to follow in
a couple of hours!!!!”

A spokesman for the charity said: “They braved colossal waves, the boat
capsizing, and the breakage of all their oars which meant drifting for
several days until new ones could be brought.

“Heroically undaunted by this series of disasters, their determination to
complete the challenge remained undiluted, and finally, having battled their
way through a massive tropical storm, they reached their goal.

“We send the boys our deepest congratulations on their spectacular
achievement and, above all, our most heartfelt thanks for taking up this
unbelievable challenge for Facing the World.”

Last month McElhone spoke movingly of her late husband, his charity and their
two friends
in a first person piece for The Daily Telegraph.
