Sources of the police on Sunday said a huge part of their probe into the bloody attack is centered on Samantha Lewthwaite.
Also on the same day, a classified document from Scotland Yard has claimed Kenyan authorities found Lewthwaite to be using her Mombasa residence as a bomb factory. She also rented a house opposite the mall in Nairobi.
Lewthwaite has been labelled as the “white widow” after her husband, Jermaine Lindsay, blew himself up in the 7/7 London attacks in 2005.
The British mum-of-three got remarried with Abdi Wahid from Kenya and stayed at his home in the African country. Police arrested Wahid in the Kenyan city of Mombasa in 2011 over charges of hording explosives at the home he and Lewthwaite were residing in at the time.
Police say an operation is underway to search properties around the mall since the horrific siege that claimed the lives of 67 people.
Interpol has issued an international All Points Bulletin (APB) to find Lewthwaite, a 29-year-old Muslim convert, at the request of Kenyan authorities.
She is believed to be a member of the Somali-based al-Shabaab militant group, which claimed responsibility for the attack.
Dozens of men armed with guns and grenades attacked the Westgate Mall in Nairobi on September 21, and targeted people indiscriminately. Kenyan police have so far arrested Jermaine John Grant, a Briton suspected of having a role in the mall massacre.
