Over 50 thousand people gathered in the capital on Saturday to commemorate the nation’s founding President, Kim-Il Sung 100th birthday.
The event was attended by Kim Jong-un, Kim Il-sung’s grandson, who is the present leader of North Korea.
Giant statues of the nation’s founding President Kim Il-Sung and his son and longtime ruler Kim Jong-Il were unveiled in Pyongyang on Friday.
A giant military parade has been scheduled for Sunday to boast the country’s military might that has one of the largest standing armies in the world.
The ceremony comes a day after a North Korean satellite carrier disintegrated in the air soon after launch and fell into the ocean.
The US, South Korea and Japan accused North Korea of testing a long-range missile in the disguise of sending a satellite into space.
North Korea says it launched a rocket-powered satellite for scientific and peaceful purposes.
