A photographer in Zurich recently captured this mesmerizing shot of an unexplained object in the sky.
Captured on the night of November 8th by Twitter user @Eavix1Eavix, this mysterious glowing blue spiral has left even astronomers scratching their heads.
At the time, he had assumed that what he had photographed was the SpaceX Endeavour capsule which had been returning from the International Space Station on that same night.
After the image was published, however, some experts pointed out that this couldn’t be the case, because the capsule had landed 5,000 miles away in the Gulf of Mexico, meaning that it was on the other side of the world and would not have been visible from Zurich.
“Reentry itself was over Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico, and would not have been visible from Switzerland,” amateur satellite tracker Marco Langbroek told Live Science.
“The deorbit burn, prior to reentry, was over the Indian Ocean, so also not visible from Switzerland.”
This of course begs the question – if it wasn’t the SpaceX capsule, then what exactly was it ?
While some online users have speculated that the photograph could be evidence of alien visitors, astronomers have offered up their own suggestions – indicating that it could be either a bright star or the upper stage of a rocket.
As things stand, however, no definitive explanation for the sighting has been found.
