“In my opinion, mutual trust could serve as the main focus of the negotiations between the two sides (Tehran and the P5+1 — Britain, France, Russia, China and the US plus Germany),” Mohsen Rezaei said in an interview with Mehr News Agency on Tuesday.
The official added that if the West officially recognizes the Islamic Republic’s rights and national interests, everything could be resolved.
“I am optimistic about the results of the Baghdad talks although I believe we have a long way ahead of us,” he said.
Rezaei emphasized that opening a new path for Iran and the P5+1 is of utmost importance to Tehran.
The latest round of talks between Iran and the five permanent members of the P5+1 group was held in the Turkish city of Istanbul on April 14. Both sides hailed the discussions as constructive.
The two sides agreed to hold the next round of talks in Baghdad on May 23, 2012.
Tehran and the P5+1 previously held two rounds of talks, one in Geneva, Switzerland in December 2010 and another in Istanbul in January 2011.
