As U2 frontman Bono once said, “Music can change the world because it can change people.” This weekend is the Social Good Summit, and this week for Music Monday we’re celebrating the power of music to inspire change.

Perhaps the best-known charity single is 1985′s “We Are the World,” which brought together some of the biggest recording artists of the 80s — including Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Billy Joel, Tina Turner, Bruce Springsteen and Paul Simon — to raise funds in support of famine relief in Africa. Two decades later, a new batch of contemporary pop stars released “We Are the World 25 for Haiti” to provide aid to victims of 2010′s devastating earthquake in Haiti.

From benefit concerts to iTunes singles, there are many different ways that music can travel the world to inspire change. The artists we’ve gathered have lent their efforts to promoting literacy, ending genocide and freeing political prisoners. And in addition to reminding us of the incredible importance of social good, these artists also provided us with some great songs.
