One of the world’s most powerful men, Rupert Murdoch, flew into Darwin on Monday night, saying he was keen to become part of northern Australia’s economic growth.

The media mogul flew into Darwin on his private jet where he was greeted by management of his newspaper interest, the NT News.

Mr Murdoch said it was his first visit to the Top End in 20 years.

He said the region was about to undergo considerable development.

“I think everything north of the Tropic of Capricorn can be expanded tremendously, most of the Australian rainfall is here,” he said.

Mr Murdoch has meetings scheduled throughout Tuesday and will fly out late in the day.
