nsnbc : An EO poll conducted during last Wednesday’s district elections forecast that Mozambique’s Frelimo also will win the country’s parliamentary election on October 28 and that Frelimo’s Felipe J. Nyusi will win the presidential election over Renamo challenger Alfonso Dhlakama and the MDM.
Last Wednesday, Mozambique’s ruling Frelimo wan a sweeping election victory and a majority on all of the Southeast African Country’s provinces. The district election, which this year is being held parallel to the general elections to parliament and the presidential election on October 28, was besides minor incidents declared as fair, open and free of major violent episodes.
The Election Commission declared that reruns may be possible in three polling stations where the election flow was interrupted.
Mozambique’s relatively independent Electoral Observatory took a poll for the parliamentary elections at 2,107 out of 17,010 polling stations.
Although nsnbc cannot guarantee for the validity of the methodology of the pole, including the distribution of samples, the Electoral Observatory (EO) is by many described as independent and accurate.
The ruling Frelimo and its candidate Filipe Nyusi, will, according to the EO poll, win another sweeping victory in the parliamentary elections even though it might miss some mandates to Renamo.
Renamo and its lead candidate for the presidency, Alfonso Dhlakama, will reduce Frelimo’s leading position, but not enough to challenge a Frelimo government.
The EO poll forecasts that Renamo president Dhlakama will achieve some 32 % while Frelimo’s Nyusi will lead with about 67%.
EO forecasts that the results of the presidential election will be about 58% of the votes for Frelimo‘s Felipe Nyusi, about 35% to Renamo‘s Alfonso Dhlakama, and some 8% for the newcomer MDM.
EO forecasts the results of the parliamentary elections with 57% for Frelimo, 32% for Renamo, 10% for the MDM, and only 2% for other, minor parties.
The poll forecasts that Frelimo is likely to win two seats from voters in the diaspora, and that the new parliament would be composed as follows; Frelimo 143 seats, Renamo 82 seats, MDM 25 seats.
That composition would endow Frelimo with an absolute majority in parliament. The EO poll is generally estimated as reasonably accurate, down to some 2%.
